This is a back-strap woven central panel of a Chichicastenango huipil where the neck opening would be. They all have the traditional sun burst design around the neck opening. These old pieces have been cut up, hemmed and a fringe added. An overdye has been put on each piece to give it the earthy tone. When first washing these pieces, they should be washed separately because some of the overdye will come out. Each piece is slightly different in size but they average 38" x 11 3/4".
